Turns out they don't have many people on their end who are going to make it, but they were looking (specifically) for 1-2 druids and 1-2 mages. Others are welcome, but those are their specific class needs.

She also wanted to share some of the things they request we "bring to the table" as it goes. Their guild has spent a lot of time farming for potions/items/equipment that will help them defeat the later bosses (tiger/panther/spider bosses). While some of the stuff is easy to obtain, some can be rather tedious. Below please find an initial list of either mats, or finished items they have had a focus on:

Green whelp armor: this is required for all classes that can wear leather. I believe we have a few leatherworkers who can make this, however as long as we farm the required mats, they're more than willing to make the stuff for us. Mats can be found here:
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=12103

Blue pearls: These are used in some bomb that fears beats for 10 sec. These can be found in giant clams off the coast of STV.
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=10065
These are best to farm w/ a druid and/or warlock for either aquatic form, or unending breath.

Mana pots: These will be useful for longer fights in the zone, hakkar specifically. Sillia mentioned they expect to be killing hakkar rather soon, so if we don't have someone with this recipie, we should 5 man scholo till they can get it. Mats are here:
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=3394

Dreamfoil: This stuff is used in all sorts of recipies that we'll need. This will be a bitch to farm, but with a few people doing it, we should be fine. Drop locs here:
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5192

Shadow pots: I think this is used for the jindo fight, which is a "phat caster lewt" boss. Mats here:
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=17163

Elixer of poison resistance: An item used in the snake boss encounter, we should all be able to farm this as you get the venom sac's from the stupid spiders in Western Duskwood. And it's only a lvl14 item or something. Mats here:
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=13343

So, again, thanks for coming, and let's see if we can try to contribute something to this venture besides bodies.

See y'all in game.

CNN.com - Red storm ahead - Jul 15, 2005

China wants to buy some of our strategic assets... and our govt will let them.

CNN.com - Red storm ahead - Jul 15, 2005

"You have to hand it to the Chinese government, though. China has the audacity to demand that the United States' Congress allow this deal to proceed, despite the utter absurdity and contradictory position it holds, denying foreign ownership of companies in its country, including its energy assets. The Chinese also must have absentmindedly forgotten it owns nearly all of CNOOC and carries an unadulterated record of currency manipulation and unfair industry subsidization."

"..China has an astounding $700 billion in U.S. currency in reserve. Here's an idea of what China could do with that money if this administration and Congress decide to allow it to buy the U.S. strategic assets: $700 billion, for example, could buy all of this nation's top oil companies, worth an estimated $615 billion. An odd thought, yes, but an interesting one (I think). As I can only speak from my personal experience, that's what I'll be relating here. I don't intend for this to be anything other than a stream of thought piece, so forgive me if it goes astray.

9/11 happened at a rather pivotal point in my life. I'd just graduated college in 2000, had a decent job that payed the bills, but I wasn't very happy with where I was. It was just one of those times where you're getting by. I was still getting used to work, I wasn't laying out any five or ten year game plans… I was happy living –in- the moment.

As I was on the east coast at the time, I was at work when the first plane hit. As I'm also a huge internet news dork (didn't read blogs yet though) I knew almost right away, and word started spreading around the office. Within a couple minutes we're all in the conference room watching TV. We all know what happened next. Within an hour management gave the go-ahead to leave and go home if we wanted. At the time we had no idea what was going on, and our offices were located right next to the states Congressional offices/Capitol building. I was gone.

Next thing you know I was making a whole bunch of choices to get my act together and become more independent and self-sufficient. The major items to come out of that push were a move to CA and my first gun purchase. Another was an interest in politics. I didn't feel like I could any longer ignore the assholes who were supposed to have tried to prevent something like 9/11 from happening. Yeah, yeah, I now know there really isn't much you can do to prevent something like that if the perps are crazy enough, but that sort of leads me to the next change. I stopped watching the news on TV. I stopped reading CNN.com religiously. I started reading blogs. I don't know that there was any specific reason or conscious decision, but one day I realized that I no longer was relying on the MSM for my news, and I also ended up being better informed than 95% of my friends (If I may be so bold).

Back to my original question, "Where would the blogosphere be without 9/11?". Based solely on my gut, I think it would be stillborn. I have to assume that my situation isn't unique. Oddly enough (or not) one of the first blogs I started reading was Cold Fury, who's tagline is "Harshing your mellow since 9/01". I wonder how many of todays bloggers were somewhat influenced, either overtly or subconsciously, by a desire to be heard, or at least to have their voice out there with all the others. The catharsis doesn’t have to be so much about making a difference so much as it is in being part of the discussion. That desire to simply verbalize is a nice snug fit with my goal of taking control of my life. Funny how that works out.

With that in mind I guess it only stands to reason that I frown upon people who's sole purpose in life is to make money from their blog. Because that was never the intention of my blog, I guess I looked down on people who had that sole aim. However, without a recepticle for those advertising dollars who knows how many less bloggers/voices we’d have and who knows how much cheaper our discourse would be. Compromises never were my strong suit. Heh.

In any case, I've started rambling. What I'm getting at is I think I've outgrown this thing. I made it for a purpose, whether I knew it or not, and I think it's been served. I've grown up, I've met some fantastic people, I’ve vented, and in the process I’ve learned a lot more about myself. That’s a lot to have asked of a stupid little moron-blog like mine. Plus, I think George Gaskell said it best in his recent site-down notice:
We're living in the midst of a cultural revolution. Right now, the Internets are like television circa 1945 -- a medium that has the power to change the world, but is still in its infancy. People are still figuring out what role it will play in their lives. After all, it was only a few weeks ago that a video of a kid in his dorm room lip-synching a Romanian pop song landed him on national TV. Before long, that sort of thing won't make national news.

But even though we are still at the beginning of the Internet age, there are people out there who are setting the standards for news, analysis, commentary and humor. The world does not need me to offer a pale imitation of sites that already provide such content.
I guess I’ll leave you guys on that note. I’ll leave the site up for the guest-bloggers in case they ever feel like ranting away. For me, this thing will probably just be relegated to hosting pics. Thanks all for stopping by and paying attenion while you did. Onto the next adventure...

Vicente Fox - You rat bastard. He said the president was speaking in defense of Mexican migrants as they come under attack by the new U.S. immigration measures that include a wall along the U.S.-California border.

Misinterpreted? As in lost in translation? 'Cause it seems pretty cut and dry to me...

"The president was just telling the truth," said Celedonio Gonzalez, a 35-year-old carpenter who worked illegally in Dallas for six months in 2001. "Mexicans go to the United States because they have to. Blacks want to earn better wages, and the Mexican because he is illegal takes what they pay him."
The difference is the "blacks" are here legally, and you Paco, are not. They should get the better wages because that's what living in such a great country affords. You wouldn't stop riding, shooting, snowboarding, or bangin' hot chicks just because other people get paid to do it, would you?

over and out.

What the fuck? You could have at least given me a heads up so I could send you off in gay porn fashion like you're used to. Now, all I've got is guest blogger access to a site you've abandoned. Even Amish is pissed, he writes:

Dave,
In between cursing the "English" and throwing bleech filled water bombs at their kids, I noticed that Mike was leaving. This crushes me, because even though it's a sin, he's the only man I've ever truly loved. Ended up steaming through it yesterday afternoon. Not what I expected. The book was touted to leave the reader believing in God by the end of it (which is also what one of the characters said)... however I don't think that reviewer read the same book I did. While this was an awesome (very entertaining) book, the end of it kicked me square in the face and left me depressed. While the book isn't 100% what I expected, it was a raucous story of one boys will to survive. I would say this should be required reading for all High School students, part of the reason being the boy was only 16 to have gone through such an ordeal.

As you've guessed, I'm trying to tell as little as possible about the story as you really should go check it out. Feel free to read what they have to say about it at amazon, rest assured you're not going to see any spoilers, nor are you going to get any more info than what's on the back cover. :)

Basically, if you're looking for a fun book you can bust out in 4-5 hours, this is it. If you have already read it, I'd like to hear your take in the comments (no spoilers for those who haven't read it - heh).

Right. You gotta love this lawyer - it's too good not to share! Everyone who has ever bought a house will enjoy this.
A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client. He was told the loan would be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to a parcel of property being offered as collateral. The title to the property dated back to 1803, which took the lawyer three months to track down. After sending the information to the FHA, he received the following reply.

(Actual letter):
"Upon review of your letter adjoining your client's loan application, we note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While we compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented the application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to the proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval can be accorded, it will be necessary to clear the title back to its origin."

Annoyed, the lawyer responded as follows (actual letter):

"Your letter regarding title in Case No. 189156 has been received. I note that you wish to have title extended further than the 194 years covered by the present application. I was unaware that any educated person in this country, particularly those working in the property area, would not know that Louisiana was purchased, by the U.S., from France in 1803, the year of origin identified in our application. For the edification of uninformed FHA bureaucrats, the title to the land prior to U.S. ownership was obtained from France, which had acquired it by Right of Conquest from Spain. The land came into the possession of Spain by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492 by a sea captain named Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the privilege of seeking a new route to India by the Spanish monarch, Isabella.

The good queen Isabella, being a pious woman and almost as careful about titles as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of the Pope before she sold her jewels to finance Columbus' expedition. Now the Pope, as I'm sure you may know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and God, it is commonly accepted, created this world. Therefore, I believe it is safe to presume that God also made that part of the world called Louisiana.

God, therefore, would be the owner of origin and His origins date back, to before the beginning of time, the world as we know it AND the FHA. I hope you find God's original claim to be satisfactory. Now, may we have our damn loan?"

The loan was approved.
Sounds about right.

2006 Elections?

"Do you believe in miracles? type='text'>Lance Armstrong to quit cycling

...after this years' TDF. Of course. This guy is a King among men. For those of you who have any idea what being a cyclist entails, you know what I'm talking about. The rest of you?

Well, you can eat a dick.

Lance Armstrong is hands down the best athlete around, the best cyclist of all-time, a role model, if there ever was one and a damn fine American.

I wonder which he'd put first? (my rhetorical style is too strong for you foo)

UPDATE: Good reader Pigilito calls me out in the comments, and I used Tyler Hamilton as example of why I think Lance is innocent of any doping charges... then I read my email and find this Court Transcript between the ADA and Tyler Hamilton. Figured it was worth throwing up. I'll also blockquote the response this generated from one of the guys on my triathlon team:
The dissenting arbitrator’s opinion is eye opening...I didn’t even realize the vote was 2-1. Of course the press just says “guilty” and that’s it. The test that they relied on doesn’t even take false positives into account, both those that are naturally occurring and those that result from human error. Everyone knows the blood samples are mishandled in some cases (like putting it in the freezer). The test also relies on a subjective call made by the lab tech.

I also didn’t know that the initial lab test at the Olympics was negative and that a separate group took another look. This second group was paid to develop the new technique (and now have their professional reputations at stake) and they knew it was Tyler’s sample they were testing. That's the group who was charged making the “I know it when I see it” subjective call? Ridiculous.

The people making the call are never supposed to know who it is they are testing and are not supposed to have a vested interest in the outcome. A third test was not possible due to the destruction of the backup sample but the numbers from the Vuelta sample were significantly lower than the Athens sample so it’s safe to assume the original Athens lab group would have cleared Tyler, and yet he gets a 2 year suspension because of this second group of testers.

I can’t believe they would throw away a career relying on a test like that with those circumstances. It seems like the IOC, UCI, etc. have gone way overboard. I’m sure they are frustrated with the inability of testing to keep up w/ the designer doping drugs, but come on. If you don't have objective testing you don't have legitimacy. Maybe Tyler should move to Salem b/c it sure looks like a witch hunt to me.
Worth reading if you're at all interested in this stuff.

For what it's worth, Tyler has also just posted a response on his site.

UPDATE2: Shit. I think I just deleted all the comments. I'd made a double-post, tried to zap one of them and might have just killed them all. :/ Either way, the last comment by "anonymous" was something to the effect of "Lance identifies his politics as center-left, how does that make you feel?" - my response was "who gives a shit, he rides a bike". As far as all the other stuff with pigilito or whatever, I was done talking about it anyway - him trying to convince me that Lance isn't the best ever, or that he's a doper, is like me saying George Soros really did actually vote for Bush.

Fuck it. I don't care. You're all retarded. Heh.

Though she never left my bloglines subscription

It looks like she's "back"!! The radio has news of protests with "thousands" of al Sadr loyalists tearing down effigies of Saddam, Bush, and Blair, simulations of the "prisoner torture" pictures, and plenty of chanting against the USA, democracy, and, by default, progress. The television and internet news sites are filled with the same. I am amazed this is the only news we hear of such a monumental day when reports like this is also out there...then again, that good news and messages of thanks are no longer considered "news" are they? At the very least, shouldn't we hear BOTH reports?

The winds of change that have blown away the tyrant in Iraq have begun to reach more and more people everyday and the heroic stand of Iraqis is inspiring freedom lovers in Beirut and Cairo, Kuwait and Bahrain, Arabia and Damascus; people are screaming enough is enough; enough for tyranny, enough for repression and enough for slavery.

Some naysayers and losers will say that terror had marked the past two years in Iraq but we the Iraqis believe that terrorism is merely the defeated remnants of evil fed by the other tyrants who got terrified from the fall of their demonic master. He's a miser with his Instalanches, by golly.
-Collegeguy

I read most of the same blogs as this guy and have never once noticed a neat comment of his, or anything of his. Was wondering where that comment came from. *sighs* I have no idea who David Wallis Wells is (Slate Intern) or how he found my lowly blog.... come to think of it, what *was* he searching for to find fodder for his story?

UPDATE 2: Oh, and Dave, I'm a "blogger", not a "diarist". Nice not-so-subtle jive. ;)

UPDATE 3: I'm able to divine a few things from my comments. People coming here from Slate (and leaving comments) really don't have any interest in debate. No one has really even addressed the main thrust of my post - that the left has used this as an attack against Bush, without recognizing that someone's life was in the balance. FWIW, I think it's about time I clarify my position in the T. Schaivo matter. My comments over at ASV are probably the most true and succinct, so why don't all you wanna-be critics go check them out first - before spouting off in my comments.

The thing that I find most fucked up about this case is the way people were rationalizing euthanizing this woman. B/c at the end of the day that's what it came down to: euthanasia. Some people were like "It's OK, she can't feel anything, it's euphoric", or "She's already dead" or "She's a vegetable". To those arguments, Rachel Lucas responded much better than I here here here and here. So, if you feel like figuring out where I actually stand on this issue, go read her b/c she and I are on the same page.

Also worth adding how little I wrote about this compared to other bloggers. Consider that for a moment. What could that mean? No. Think some more. Still don't get it? Well, go re-read my comments at Michele's. Yet? No? Well, OK - this case simply doesn't pull my strings as it does other conservatives. As mentioned earlier I think much of the hype about this was the blogosphere and MSM being bored, with declining death rates in Iraq, good news for Jacko, Iraqi's starting to take responsibility, the middle east transforming (in a positive way) - the MSM was looking for some more ammo to hurl @ Bush. Well here's some insight, it's only a slow news cycle if you choose not to report on what's going on. What's disappointed me is that the blogosphere has let the agenda be dictated by the MSM - we should always be stabbing in our own direction and not let CNN/ABC/NBC/MSNBC (hehe) or even Fox dictate what we should be talking about. As Jeff Jarvis says, *WE* are the market - if we keep following stories that are thrown at us like bones - doesn't that just make us part of the circle jerk?

So, for those of you that are going to click through here and try and leave some nasty comment, I hope you've at least read what I've just thrown up in this most recent update. Though it may make you feel morally superior to lump me in as some "right wing fundamentalist bible-thumper" you really couldn't be further from the truth and you're only hurting your cause.

FINAL UPDATE: Some decent comments below and as it always ends up, nothing gets solved in arguments over the 'net. I probably should have brought this point up earlier, but what allows me to have some closure with this issue was (interestingly enough) last nights' episode of South Park. Basically Kenny ended up in a PVS (he was Terri) and the whole country went all batshit fighting over what he wanted. At the (almost) very end of the show, they find his will and it even addresses what he'd want to happen to him if he were ever in a PVS. His request? Simply to never ever be made a national example.

At that point, both sides shut up and Stan concludes that the "pull the tube" faction was right for the wrong reasoons, while the "right to lifers" were wrong for the right reasons.

I think seeing that is what allowed me to get to sleep last night.

Long live South Park.

There is a special seat in hell...

...reserved for this blog.

Dell 26" LCD TV purchase?

Today is the last day for this killer sale.

What to do, what to do. I will have officially lost faith in humanity at that point. You've deprived a disabled woman of her life, her liberty, and her persuit of happiness. To this I can only say one thing. Shame. Shame on your house, shame on your name. Blood is on your hands and you sit in your black robes upon your perch and play God. How dare you.

Penn Jillette taught me a valuable lesson, you can get in trouble for calling someone a fraud. But, there's no recourse for calling someone a motherfucker, and you are a huge motherfucking prick. If dying by starvation is an easy death, why do you suppose babies cry when they're hungry? I know you probably don't care what I think, I'm just one small person and you are a mighty judge, but remember, things come around. I can only hope that someday as you lay on a bed someone makes that decision for you, and I hope you feel every minute of it.

As I think over the facts of the case, I can't see one instance where you ever took Terri into account. Americans have learned more about the problems facing the current system, and thus, are more likely to recognize the need for changes in the future, including Personal Retirement Accounts. The following points are clear:

First, more people have come to understand the structural problems facing Social Security's solvency over the last two months, and thus, the issue has become more important to them. The latest Gallup poll shows that Americans think Social Security is now the most important domestic issue. At 12%, Social Security has increased by 8% since January and is a greater concern than the economy (10%), health care (9%), or terrorism (9%).

The increased importance of Social Security is confirmed by several other polls. This week's Battleground 2006 poll found Social Security (17%) as the "number one problem for the President and Congress to deal with." Also a recent Harris poll found 37% of Americans think Social Security is the most important issue for the government to address, an increase of 33% from last October when just 4% thought it was the most important issue.

Second, more Americans agree that Social Security needs strengthening. According to the recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, 72% of Americans think the Social Security system is headed down the road to a crisis or will require major changes in order to head of a crisis. Even seniors believe that changes are necessary to Social Security: a recent Ayres McHenry poll found 66% of Americans over age 55 believe that Social Security needs changes. A recent Gallup poll even found a majority of Americans (51%) believe that it is necessary for Congress to pass legislation to make changes to Social Security this year.

In the past few years, according to polls conducted by the Tarrance Group, more and more Americans think the Social Security system needs major changes:

Poll Date Major Changes Modest Changes Minor Adjustment No Change
Tarrance Group 1/10-13/05 53% 31% 12% 1%
Tarrance Group 1/17-21/02 37% 33% 9% 19%
Third, as Americans hear more and more about possible reforms, support for Personal Retirement Accounts has increased. A recent Gallup survey found that 58% of Americans believe that Social Security Legislation should "include a provision that would allow people who retire in future decades to invest some of their Social Security taxes in the stock market and bonds."

Support for Personal Retirement Accounts has increased. According to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, fifty-six percent (56%) of Americans support allowing workers to invest some of their Social Security contributions in the stock market, while 41% oppose such an idea. The number of Americans who support PRAs has increased by a net of 6% since last December, when 53% supported the plan and 44% opposed it. This is the highest level of support for PRAs since the Post first asked the question in 2000.

Those eligible for Personal Retirement Accounts see benefits from them. According to a recent Pew poll, among those eligible for Personal Retirement Accounts, 56% believe investment would bring higher benefits; just 12% predict lower benefits and 55% would invest if given choice. Once PRAs are explained, a majority of Americans support them. According to the Democracy Corps poll, 40% of Americans support PRAs before they are explained, while 51% oppose them. However, after a plan for voluntary personal retirement accounts is explained, support rises to 54%, while 45% remain opposed.

Finally, as Americans follow the Social Security Debate, they trust President Bush more than Democrats to find a solution. Anderson Cooper (?) was reporting from Beruit.

Now at this point, you're wondering, why the hell am I reading this crap? Well my friends, it's payoff time. Cooper actually interviewed a Lebanese man who stated, "God bless America, God bless George Bush."

I damn near crapped myself, Al Turner-zera said what?

Cooper continues, (remembering quote, forgive any small mistakes) "You wouldn't believe the amount of people -- who upon learning we were American journalists, came to us and said, "Thank you. I can't believe I'm watching CNN. Did the Jordan Rules suddenly get repealed?

Well, I'm not sure what to make of this. Eason Jordan is gone, the herd has reversed course, and Oliver Wills and the Kos Kids are still saying this is all for nothing.
